Our rich history and quality of life make Madelia an ideal location to live and work.

The City of Madelia places a high priority on recreational opportunities and tourism. A 4.5 mile Cross-Country Ski/Hiking Trail is being developed that traverses the beautiful Watonwan River. This trail features an observation deck that overlooks the river, 4 bridge spans including a historic truss bridge, a student nature area project, and access to the Watona Park system.

The trail was developed using local and regional resources. The City of Madelia and the Madelia Municipal Light Plant provided the materials and cleared the path. Woodchips were spread as a base by the Madelia Boy Scouts.

4.5 Miles of hiking and cross-country skiing on the beautiful Riverside Trial.

The Observation Deck was a joint project between the Madelia Municipal Light and Power Plant and the Industrial Education class at the Madelia High School. This project was coordinated by the class and the Madelia Development Corporation, and is an excellent addition to the trails and waterways in Madelia.
