Board of Adjustments
and Appeals
The Board of Adjustments and Appeals is made up
of the Fire Chief, a member of the Planning Commission,
and a member of the Madelia City Council. The board
meets on an as needed basis. The board is responsible
for issuing variances from the building and zoning
ordinance.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is made up of nine
individuals who are appointed for three year terms. The
commission meets on an as needed basis and are not
compensated for their meetings. The board reviews all
building applications in the industrial zone and
recommends changes to the zoning code of the city.

Park Board
The Park Board is made up of three appointed
members, the appointments are made for a three year
term. The park manager is an ex officio (non-voting)
member of the board. The board members are compensated
on an annual basis of $100.00 per year. The park board
meets on a monthly basis and is responsible for the
operation of the park system. The park system includes
the Watona Park, Flanders Park, and the Mini Park. The
park board also oversees the operation of the summer
youth recreation program and the winter skating rink.
The board is responsible for adopting a revenue and
expenditure budget, recommending a fee schedule for
camping and use of the park shelters.

Pool Board
The Madelia Swimming Pool and Water Slide is a
seasonal operation which is open from June through
August. The Pool Board is made up of three appointed
members, appointed for a term of three years on a
rotation basis. The Poll Manager is an ex officio
member (non-voting.) The Pool Board meets on an as
needed basis and the members are compensated on an
annual basis in the amount of $100.00. The board is
responsible for adopting a revenue and expenditure
budget, recommending a fee schedule and a pay schedule
for employees.

Golf Course Board
The Madelia Golf Course is a nine hole municipal
golf course which is in operation form May until
November of each year. The Madelia Golf Course Board is
made up of six appointed individuals, appointed for a
term of three years on a rotational basis. The Golf
Course Manager is an ex-officio (non-voting) member.
The board meets on a monthly basis and they are
compensated on an annual basis in the amount of
$100.00. The board is responsible for adopting a
revenue and expenditure budget, recommending a fee
schedule and a pay schedule for employees. The board is
also in charge of the promotion of the course.
